12th - 13th Century plain gold finger ring set with amethyst. Oval bezel standing on plain hoop.
Popular type of Gothic ring that appears already in the thirteenth century, continues in the fourteenth century, and exists in gold, silver, and bronze set with different gemstones. Haedecke refers to it as the “beaker” type (Oman calls it “cup-shaped”), because the bezel is in the form of a conical beaker; the stone is cut on the sides to fit securely into the beaker and then polished on the top.
